How Artificial Intelligence is Redefining Consulting for Business Families

Integrating the Serebrenik model to achieve a multigenerational competitive advantage

One of the biggest questions many clients have asked me over the last 20 years is whether I myself am preparing my succession and what would happen to all the knowledge I have been developing over these last 25 years. With this question in mind, and without pressuring my next generation, last summer, during a reflection with my son, he ended up joining the party. This implied carrying out a strategic exercise with external help from a company that uses what they call PARALLEL INTELLIGENCES (Human and Artificial) with the purpose of rethinking the future of our company, leading us into a deeper exercise of not only rethinking our company, but also rethinking the future of family business consulting worldwide. Here are some of the reflections from this exercise.

For decades, consulting in family businesses has depended on experience, intuition, and expert facilitation. Today, this reality is changing.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is not only automating processes; it is transforming the way business families understand their own complexity. When this technology is integrated with structured frameworks such as the Serebrenik model, which articulates dimensions such as purpose, governance, relationships, strategy, and succession, a new paradigm emerges: more precise, continuous, and strategically relevant consulting.

The question is no longer whether AI will impact the family business, but rather how families and their advisors can take advantage of it without losing their human essence.

From intuition to evidence

The family business mainly combines two deeply human systems: family and business. This duality has historically made consulting dependent on qualitative methods. However, these approaches present clear limitations: biases, lack of traceability, and difficulty scaling.

AI introduces a different capability: transforming complex dynamics into analyzable patterns. But its true potential materializes when it is integrated into a framework that gives it meaning. That is where the Serebrenik model becomes key.

How AI transforms each critical dimension

1. Purpose and legacy: from statements to strategic coherence

Many families believe they share a common vision, but they have rarely articulated it explicitly. Remember, regimes do not collapse for being right-wing or left-wing; they mainly collapse for being incoherent.

AI can analyze speeches, documents, and historical decisions to identify:

  • Values that are actually practiced (not only declared)

  • Inconsistencies between generations

  • Tensions between tradition and evolution

This allows the purpose to stop being aspirational and become an aligned strategic asset.

2. Governance: from formal structures to real dynamics

Governance structures are usually defined on paper, but they operate differently in practice.

With AI, it is possible to:

  • Map real networks of influence

  • Analyze historical decision-making patterns

  • Simulate the impact of future decisions and measure trends

  • Establish processes that generate greater added value

The result is more transparent governance, where authority is understood not only through positions, but through behavior and through a strategy of permanent value creation.

3. Family relationships: from reactivity to anticipation

Conflict is not the problem; the lack of structured and constructive management is.

AI allows:

  • Detecting changes in emotional tone in communications

  • Identifying emerging conflicts before they escalate

  • Analyzing dysfunctional interaction patterns

This radically changes the approach: from solving crises to systematically preventing them.

4. Strategy: from business vision to multi-capital vision

Strategic decisions in business families are not only financial. They include reputation, legacy, commitment, and cohesion.

AI can:

  • Integrate family variables into strategic models

  • Evaluate non-financial risks

  • Optimize decisions considering generational horizons

Strategy evolves toward a comprehensive value creation approach.

5. Succession: from subjective decisions to structured processes

Succession is frequently the most critical moment.

With AI, families can:

  • Evaluate competencies objectively

  • Identify biases in decisions

  • Design personalized development plans

This does not eliminate the emotional dimension, but it introduces balance and clarity into the process.

6. Culture: from intangible to manageable

Culture has traditionally been difficult to measure.

Today, AI allows:

  • Monitoring organizational behaviors in real time

  • Evaluating coherence between values and actions

  • Detecting cultural deviations

  • Strengthening teamwork

Culture stops being an abstract concept and becomes a manageable system.

The new role of the consultant

This change does not eliminate the consultant; it redefines the role.

Instead of being only a facilitator, the consultant becomes:

  • An interpreter of complex data

  • A designer of strategic conversations

  • A guardian of the balance between technology and humanity

  • A strategist for continuity

  • A protector of the family legacy

Consulting stops being episodic and becomes a continuous process, where diagnoses evolve in real time.

The risks of not doing it correctly

Adopting AI without criteria can be as risky as not adopting it:

  • Excessive confidence in algorithms

  • Loss of family privacy

  • Dehumanization of critical decisions

The families that will lead this transformation will be those that understand that AI does not replace judgment, but amplifies it.

What family businesses should do now

Family leaders can begin with three concrete actions:

  1. Structure their model: Adopt a framework such as the Serebrenik model to organize their complexity.

  2. Digitize their key processes: Without data, there is no intelligence.

  3. Integrate AI progressively: Start with specific cases (governance, succession, culture).

The multigenerational advantage

The real opportunity is not technological; it is strategic.

Families that manage to integrate artificial intelligence with a deep understanding of their identity will have an advantage that is difficult to replicate: the ability to make complex decisions with clarity, coherence, and continuity.

In an environment where most companies struggle to survive, business families that adopt this approach will not only survive, they will transcend generations with greater solidity.
